Could no longer scratch after about 1 year. Was hoping this could be used until I had visited all 50 states!
At first: I thought this map was awesome and beautiful when I first purchased it. At that time, it was easy to scratch off and I loved the floral design that appeared underneath. One year in: However, about a year later when I tried scratching off additional states I had to scratch really hard and accidentally scratched off a couple tiny spots of the floral design beneath. So I just thought I had to be more gentle. After some trial and error, I found out that if I added a little water to a paper towel and gently rubbed the states I was trying to scratch off, that helped. I was able to update the map that way for a while. 3-4 years in: Now, this map is completely useless. I just threw it away a couple days ago. Just last week I tried scratching off most of the remaining states and I tried everything! The foil part did not want to come off. If it did, it left a serious indent or ruined the paper underneath. I tried adding heat with a blow dryer. I tried a little bit of water on a paper towel and holding it over the states that needed to be scratched. I tried using a razorblade and scratching the thinnest possible layer (this was the most successful, but still not great). I ended up just trashing the map and shopping around for a new one. What a shame. I just had family visiting who saw the map and made comments about it. I was going to buy them each one for Christmas, but now I know that this shop is not the way to go.
It's cool!!!!!. Great for my bucket list travels
Love love love
Everyone loves their maps!

Junk
I bought it for my wife for Christmas. Thought it would be nice to scratch off as we travel. By that next fall you couldn’t even scratch off any new places because the foil had hardened and is new pretty useless.
